Treatment of fever

Fever often does not need treatment, as it disappears after one to two weeks, but it does not disappear sometimes and causes pain, which requires treatment, and there are several ways to treat it, such as:

1. Mouthwash

The doctor usually prescribes a mouthwash to treat fever, especially if the fever is multiple, and often a mouthwash that contains either a pain reliever such as Lidocaine, an anti-inflammatory steroid such as Dexamethazone, or a mouthwash that contains tetracyclin. It helps relieve pain and speed up treatment.

Taking care to avoid using it by pregnant women, or anyone who suffers from allergies to it, or children under 16 years old.

Topical treatments are used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and prevent it, which are available in the form of a liquid, gel, or cream. Some examples of them include the following:

  • Topical pain relievers: such as a gel that contains lidocaine or benzocaine , which works by applying it to the place of the fever as a pain reliever.
  • Topical anti-inflammatories: These include steroids and are only available with a prescription, and should be used exactly as directed by your doctor.
  • Topical antibacterials: These medications are not dispensed unless the doctor or dentist suspects that the fever is susceptible to bacterial infections.

3. Oral medications

Oral medications are used if other treatments have failed, and include the following:

  • Some medicines that are not used to treat a fever, such as: Sacrulfate, which is usually used to treat intestinal ulcers, or Colchicine, a medicine used to treat gout.

A caustic tool is used to burn the tissues that contain the fever, then analgesic drugs are used to calm the pain and speed up treatment, such as: silver nitrate.
